Safe-zone alerts: 'Emma arrived at school'
Geofenced safe-zone alerts — get a push when a family member arrives at school, home, or practice. Adults draw zones on a map; the tracked person's phone reports crossings through Chickadee Locate. Up to fifteen zones on every household plan.
What Safe Zones does
Adults draw zones on a map, home, school, practice, and choose who is tracked and who is told. When that person's phone crosses a zone, the hub judges the event and sends a push to the audience you set.
Crossings are reported by the Chickadee Locate app on the tracked phone, with deduplication, cooldowns, and quiet hours enforced on the server. The home zone also shows who is currently home.
How it works
- Zones from 150 m to 5 km radius, drawn by adults.
- Arrival and departure pushes to a configured audience.
- Deduplication, cooldown, and quiet hours enforced by the hub.
- Zone events kept for 30 days.
- Tracker status shows when a phone last reported.
- Zones also power places-only sharing: a member can appear on the map only while at one, pinned to the place.
Up to fifteen safe zones per household. Needs the Chickadee Locate companion app on the tracked phone.

If you want more depth
Safe Zones is one app in a household library, not a product built around this one job. Some apps do only this and go further. Seven family location and driving apps, by what each one is for sets them side by side, and says when one of them is the better choice.
Guides that use Safe Zones
- Seven questions to ask any family app before you put your household in it — Seven questions for judging a family organizer's privacy: who pays, where data sits, what apps read, what kids see, can you leave. Then a ten-minute setup.
- Family location sharing that does not turn into surveillance — Where to draw the line: opt-in sharing per person, safe zones that alert on arrival, a who's-home board, and curfews a teenager can negotiate in the app.
- From learner's permit to first car: a practice log, then drive reports — Learning to drive and driving alone need different records. A log a parent signs while they learn, then weekly drive reports the teen can see too.
Part of the library
Safe Zones is one of the apps in the Chickadee Bandit library. Every household starts nearly empty and installs only what it uses; there is no per-app charge. Your data lives in your household's own private, encrypted database, with no ads and no data selling. Browse the Family apps or read the source on GitHub.
