Chickadee Bandit vs. Cozi
An honest look at the two, for families weighing a switch.

Which is a better fit?
Cozi is a good fit if a free shared calendar, lists, and recipes cover your needs and ads are acceptable. Chickadee Bandit fits families who want an ad-free household hub with chores, rewards, documents, and a shared wall display.
Where Cozi shines — and where it doesn't
Cozi has been the default name in family calendars for two decades, and its shared calendar and grocery list are genuinely simple to pick up. If all you want is a free color-coded calendar and you don't mind ads, it still does that job.
The trade-offs show up over time: the free tier is ad-supported and, per Cozi's own published materials and recent reviews, limits how far ahead you can see on the calendar without upgrading to Cozi Gold. There's no built-in chores-and-rewards system, no messaging, no location sharing, and calendar connections to Google, Apple, and Outlook are one-way feeds.
Side by side
| Cozi | Chickadee Bandit | |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing | Free with ads; Cozi Gold, $39/yr, removes ads and adds the mobile month view, calendar search, change notifications and up to three reminders per event. | One household plan from $6/mo (or $60/yr) covering up to 10 members, with every feature included — there is no premium tier. No ads on any plan. |
| Ads & data | Ad-supported free tier; privacy policy permits data use for targeted advertising. | No ads, ever. No data selling. Each household gets its own isolated, encrypted database. |
| Calendar | Shared color-coded calendar; free tier restricts the forward view; one-way feeds to and from other calendars. | Full shared calendar on every plan. Reads Google, Apple, and Outlook calendars in, writes hub events out to a calendar of their own in your iCloud or Outlook account, and publishes a subscribe feed for any other calendar app — no add-on. |
| Reminders | Standard event reminders free; up to three per event on Cozi Gold. | Event reminders, scheduled nudges such as medication times with an alert when one is missed, and a Monday household digest. Included in every plan. |
| Chores & rewards | Flat to-do lists — no per-person chore assignment, rotation, points, or allowance tracking. | Dedicated chores, allowance, rewards, streaks, and routines apps with per-member assignment and kid-friendly views. |
| Beyond the calendar | Shopping lists, to-dos, meal planner, family journal. | Over 100 installable apps: meals and pantry, documents, location and safe zones, messaging, home maintenance, and more — install only what you use. |
| Shared wall tablet | No dedicated shared-device mode. | Wall-display mode pairs any tablet as a family command center, included with every plan. |

Moving from Cozi
Start a trial, install the calendar and grocery apps, and you've covered the core of what Cozi does — without ads or a restricted calendar window. From there, add what Cozi never had: chores with allowance, shared documents, location sharing with safe zones, or a wall display for the kitchen.
The feature list is not fixed
Every other product on this page is a fixed set of features: it does what it does, and a need it did not anticipate gets a no. Chickadee Bandit is built from small apps, and a household can add one of its own. An admin describes the app in a paragraph on the Apps page and the hub builds and installs it, using the AI credits that come with every plan; someone who writes code can start from any of the open-source apps and install their own version from a URL. A custom app gets the same checks as the ones we ship: it declares what it reads and writes, keeps its data in your household's own database, and the hub refuses anything it did not ask for.
