Which is a better fit?

Skylight is a good fit if you want a polished, dedicated wall display. Chickadee Bandit fits families who already have a tablet and want the wall display connected to a broader household hub.

Where Skylight shines — and where it doesn't

Skylight makes a genuinely polished product: a purpose-built touchscreen calendar that mounts on the wall, syncs the family's calendars, and looks great in a kitchen. If you specifically want a dedicated single-purpose device with zero setup, it's a fine choice.

The costs stack up, though: the display itself runs from about $150 to $600 depending on size, and the features families cite most — meal planning, chore rewards, AI import of school schedules — sit behind the optional Skylight Plus subscription at about $79/year. And the device is the whole product: there's no document vault, no location sharing, no messaging behind it.

The honest trade-off

Skylight's advantage is that it ships as an appliance — unbox, plug in, done. Chickadee Bandit asks you to spend ten minutes pairing a tablet and turning on your platform's kiosk lockdown (our setup guide covers iPad, Android, and Fire tablets). In exchange you skip the hardware purchase, keep the subscription smaller, and get an entire household hub instead of a calendar that lives on one wall.

The feature list is not fixed

Every other product on this page is a fixed set of features: it does what it does, and a need it did not anticipate gets a no. Chickadee Bandit is built from small apps, and a household can add one of its own. An admin describes the app in a paragraph on the Apps page and the hub builds and installs it, using the AI credits that come with every plan; someone who writes code can start from any of the open-source apps and install their own version from a URL. A custom app gets the same checks as the ones we ship: it declares what it reads and writes, keeps its data in your household's own database, and the hub refuses anything it did not ask for.
