Which is a better fit?
Keep TalkingParents if your court order names it or you need recorded calls or PDF and printed record packages. Chickadee Bandit fits parents who need unalterable messages, custody coordination, and expense tracking across two private homes.
Where TalkingParents shines — and where it doesn't
TalkingParents built its reputation on one promise: messages that cannot be altered, backed by a records service that produces a PDF or printed package for court. Its Accountable Calling records calls, and the Info Library keeps the kids' details in one place. For a contested case, that is a coherent package.
What changed is the price. As of March 30, 2026 there is no free plan, each parent pays separately, and the tier that includes unlimited PDF records starts at $16 per parent per month. Many families who joined for the free messaging record now pay more for it than for any other subscription.
Side by side
| TalkingParents | Chickadee Bandit | |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing | Per parent, monthly: Essentials $7, Enhanced $16, Ultimate $32 (about 8% off annually). No free plan since March 30, 2026; fee waivers available for financial or domestic-violence hardship. | One household plan from $6/mo (or $60/yr). One parent sponsors the co-parenting space and the other parent joins free. |
| Unalterable messaging | Messages cannot be edited or deleted; timestamps on send and first view. A tone checker (Sentiment Scanner and Writing Assist) on Ultimate. | Co-parenting spaces are append-only: no member can edit or delete a sent message, and the setting cannot be loosened by one parent. Timestamps on send and on the recipient's first view are set by the server and appear in the exported record. No tone checker. |
| Records | PDF records unlimited on Enhanced and above; printed records packages sold separately (one included on Ultimate). | Either parent can export the space's records at any time without the other's approval, on every plan: the custody record, the parents' messages, schedule history, swaps and handoff notes as one print-styled document with a cover page and checksums (downloaded as a PDF, or as a verified copy anyone can check for seven years), each custody report as CSV, or a ZIP archive of machine-readable files. Not a certified package. |
| Calling & video | Accountable Calling with recorded audio: 30 min/month on Essentials, 60 on Enhanced, unlimited on Ultimate. | None. Chickadee Bandit does not offer in-app calling or call recording. |
| Custody schedule | Shared calendar with custody schedule and event requests. | Rotation patterns (2-2-3, week-on/week-off, alternating weekends, custom) with countersigned swaps: a swap is a proposal until the other parent approves, then it locks and lands on both calendars. |
| Expenses & payments | Accountable Payments with a per-transaction fee (4% Essentials, 3% Enhanced, 2% Ultimate). | Log a cost with a receipt photo, split evenly, by exact amounts, or by saved category percentages, and request reimbursement through two-party approval. No payment processing and no transaction fees. |
| Two homes, one record | One shared space for the case; parents can be on different plans. | Each parent keeps a private household — their own calendar, chores, and new partner — and the space between them holds only what they co-manage. Neither home can see into the other. |
| Kids' details | Info Library for contacts, medical, and school details; Vault storage from 1 GB to 50 GB by tier. | Family records vault for the custody agreement, insurance cards, consent forms, sizes, allergies, doctors, and school contacts, shared with the adults who currently hold access to the space. |
| Governance | Each parent manages their own account; no shared approval model. | Both parents are equal stewards. Deleting the space, removing a member, shortening record retention, or removing a records app requires the other parent's approval. |
| Beyond co-parenting | Co-parenting only. | Over 100 installable household apps for each parent's own home, on the same plan. |

When TalkingParents is still the right call
If your case is contested and you need recorded calls or a printed records package to hand to a court, TalkingParents does things Chickadee Bandit does not. If a court order names it, keep using it. Chickadee Bandit is built for the long stretch after the order: the years of handoffs, receipts, and school forms where what you need is a clear, attributed record and a calendar both homes trust.
For mediators and attorneys
For clients whose matter has settled, Chickadee Bandit gives both parents an append-only message record, custody changes recorded with who made them and when, and an export either parent can run independently. When a client hands you a verified copy, you can check at chickadeebandit.com/verify that it is the file we issued, unchanged. We make no claims about admissibility; that is a court's decision, and we do not produce certified records.
Moving from TalkingParents
Your TalkingParents history cannot be imported. Generate your records from TalkingParents before your subscription ends and keep them with your new record. Then create a space, choose Co-parenting, and send the other parent a join link. See the co-parenting overview for what the space sets up.
The feature list is not fixed
Every other product on this page is a fixed set of features: it does what it does, and a need it did not anticipate gets a no. Chickadee Bandit is built from small apps, and a household can add one of its own. An admin describes the app in a paragraph on the Apps page and the hub builds and installs it, using the AI credits that come with every plan; someone who writes code can start from any of the open-source apps and install their own version from a URL. A custom app gets the same checks as the ones we ship: it declares what it reads and writes, keeps its data in your household's own database, and the hub refuses anything it did not ask for.
