Guest access

Let a babysitter, grandparent, or house-sitter in — to just the apps they need, for just as long as they need them.

Guest, member, or share link?

There are three ways to let someone outside your household see part of it. Pick the one that matches how long they'll be around:

  • A guest — the babysitter tonight, the house-sitter for a week, a relative staying over the holidays. They sign in with their own account, see only the apps you choose, and lose access on their own when the time runs out.
  • A member — anyone who's part of everyday life: a grandparent who does school pickup every week, a live-in nanny. Guest access lasts at most 30 days at a time, so for someone who's always around, invite them as a member from your household page instead.
  • A share link — when someone only needs to see one thing (a list or a schedule) and shouldn't need an account at all. You create a share link from within an app, on the item you want to share.

Invite a guest

Only household admins can invite and manage guests.

  1. Open your household page from the top of the menu, then tap Guests.
  2. Tap Invite a Guest.
  3. If you've saved a guest profile, pick it under Start from a profile — it fills in the apps and the access time for you.
  4. Add their email if you'd like us to send the invite. It's optional; you can share the link yourself instead.
  5. Choose an Access duration, from 4 hours up to 30 days.
  6. Tick the apps the guest can use. They won't see anything you leave unticked.
  7. Tap Create Invite, and copy the link if you're sending it yourself.

The guest opens the link and creates their own account. Their access clock starts when they join, not when you send the invite — so you can send it days ahead of a trip. Sent it to the wrong person? Use Revoke on the invite before it's redeemed.

Save a profile for people who come back

If the same kind of visit happens again and again — date-night babysitting, the grandparents' summer week — save it as a profile so you never forget an app. On the Guests screen, tap Guest Profiles, then Add Profile, name it ("Babysitter", "Grandparents"), choose a default duration, tick its apps, and Save Profiles.

A profile is applied when you create the invite. Editing it later doesn't change guests who already joined.

The same panel sets Max concurrent guests: three at a time by default, and up to ten. Guests don't take up one of your plan's member seats.

What a guest can and can't do

A guest uses the apps you ticked, as themselves, the same way a member would. Everything else in the household stays out of view. Guests also can't:

  • see the family map or share their own location,
  • start new conversations in Messages,
  • subscribe to or connect household calendars,
  • use the Family Inbox, AI quick-add, or connect an AI assistant,
  • use the SOS button, or
  • sign in with a PIN on a shared family tablet.

Inside an app, a guest is treated like a child in your household, not like an adult. Anything an app keeps for adults only (health and allergy details, other people's medications, caregiver packets) stays hidden even when that app is ticked. To get those to a sitter, send a share link instead: a Health Card or a Routines caregiver packet can each be shared as a read-only page that expires on its own.

When the time runs out

Access ends by itself at the time shown on the guest's card — you don't have to remember to remove anyone. Before then, each active guest has three controls:

  • Extend — pick a length; their access now runs that long from right now.
  • End now — locks them out immediately. For the next 7 days you can bring them back with Re-activate.
  • Revoke — removes them from the household immediately. To let them back in you'd send a new invite.

A week after access ends, a guest moves to Past guests. Their login is removed, but what they did in your apps is kept. Next visit, tap Invite back: they rejoin as the same person, their history picks up where it left off, and the clock starts again when they accept. Remove on a past guest deletes them for good.
