Chickadee Bandit vs. TeamSnap
For a coach choosing between a sports team product and a roster where families never see each other.

Which is a better fit?
Choose TeamSnap if the team collects fees online, keeps game stats or lineups, or belongs to a club or league that already runs on it. Chickadee Bandit fits a coach or leader who mainly announces, asks who is coming and takes the roll, and wants families kept out of each other's contact lists, with no ads for anyone.
Where TeamSnap shines — and where it doesn't
TeamSnap is the best-known team app in US youth sports, and it is built around the sport: schedules and rosters, lineups, game statistics, a live game feed, practice plans and drills from its pro-league partners, and invoicing for team fees. Its club and league product adds registration and org-wide messaging on top.
Chickadee Bandit is not a sports product. A team space is a roster: the coach posts once, families answer RSVPs and see their own attendance, and they see the coach and never each other. If you need to collect money, track stats or set a lineup, TeamSnap does those things and we do not, and the table below says so row by row.
Side by side
| TeamSnap | Chickadee Bandit | |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing | Per team: free for teams under 15 players, with ads; Premium $10.83/mo billed yearly or $18.99/mo, Ultra (unlimited roster) $13.75/mo billed yearly or $25.99/mo, with a free trial of 7 days. Clubs and leagues are quoted after a demo. | Priced by the coach's plan: a Family plan ($6/mo), or the Community add-on ($30/yr) on its own, runs a roster of up to 30 members; Group ($10/mo) rosters of 75; Organization ($30/mo) rosters of 200. Families join free. 30-day free trial with no card. |
| Ads | The free plan shows ads. Paid plans remove them for the team's owner and managers only; parents still see them unless they buy their own TeamSnap+ subscription, which removes them in the mobile app but not on the web. | No ads for anyone, on any plan, including the families who join free. |
| Availability & RSVPs | Availability and RSVP tracking are Premium and Ultra features; the free plan does not track who is coming. | Event RSVPs on every plan: a live headcount per game, and reminders sent only to the families who have not answered. |
| Messaging | Team chat for the whole team, direct and group messages between members, email and alerts. Only a club or league account can turn team chat and direct messages off. | Announcements with an expiry date, targeted to the team or a group. On a roster, a parent can message the coach and only the coach, and there is no chat between families. |
| Privacy between families | Each member can mark their own email, phone, address and birth date private from other members; managers always see them. Making the whole roster private at once is a club and league tool. | Built in: on a roster, families see the coach and never each other, and no family's contact details are shown to another. |
| Attendance | On paid plans, the availability each player set for past games and events doubles as the attendance record. | Take the roll at practice; each player gets an attendance rate, and each family sees only its own child's record. |
| Payments | Invoicing for team fees on every plan; the payer is charged 3.25% + $1.50 per invoice. | We collect no money. Fees are paid some other way, and there is no processing charge. |
| Sports features | Lineups, game statistics, TeamSnap Live for following a game from the phone, photo sharing, and practice plans and drills on paid plans. Registration and live streaming for clubs and leagues. | None. No stats, scores, lineups or drills, and no league registration. |
| Snacks, rides & gear | Assignments on every plan, for who brings what to each event. | Volunteer sign-up sheets, carpool rotations and an equipment log, but only in a space where families see each other, which holds 8 people on Family, 12 on Group or 20 on Organization. |
| Platforms | iPhone, Android and the web. | iPhone, Android and the web. |
| Beyond the team | Youth sports only. | The coach and every family keep a private household of their own, with over 100 installable apps. The team's space cannot see into it. |

Or step back from both: every team and group app compared, by what each is for.
When TeamSnap is the right call
When money moves through the team, when the coach keeps stats or sets a lineup, or when your club or league already pays for TeamSnap and runs registration through it. It is also the stronger choice for a team that wants a lively team chat: that is part of the product, and a roster deliberately does not have one.
When Chickadee Bandit fits better
A coach, teacher or volunteer leader whose real jobs are telling everyone once, knowing who is coming by Thursday, and noticing who has stopped showing up, for a group of families who have never met and would rather keep their numbers to themselves. It costs one plan rather than a per-team subscription, and nobody sees an ad. See what a coach gets.
Moving from TeamSnap
Nothing imports from TeamSnap. Before the season ends, export the roster and save any invoices and stats you want to keep. Then create a space as a Team, put the next season on the calendar, and share the join link at the first practice. The guide to running a season without a group chat walks through the rest.
The feature list is not fixed
Every other product on this page is a fixed set of features: it does what it does, and a need it did not anticipate gets a no. Chickadee Bandit is built from small apps, and a household can add one of its own. An admin describes the app in a paragraph on the Apps page and the hub builds and installs it, using the AI credits that come with every plan; someone who writes code can start from any of the open-source apps and install their own version from a URL. A custom app gets the same checks as the ones we ship: it declares what it reads and writes, keeps its data in your household's own database, and the hub refuses anything it did not ask for.
