Split shared expenses and see who owes whom
Track shared expenses among household members — who paid, how to split the cost, and who owes whom. Log expenses by category with a receipt, save a per-category split rule, and see a running balance per person. In a shared space, either party can request a reimbursement that both sides countersign.
What Expense Splitter does
Roommates, partners with separate accounts, and co-parents all have the same problem: somebody paid, and now the ledger lives in a text thread. This app keeps the expenses, the splits, and the balance in one place.
Save a split rule per category so groceries are always 50/50 and the kids' activities always 60/40. In a shared space between two households, either party can request a reimbursement that both sides countersign.
How it works
- Log expenses by category with who paid and a receipt.
- Split evenly, by exact amounts, or by a saved per-category rule.
- Running balance per person.
- In a shared space, countersigned reimbursement requests.

If you want more depth
Expense Splitter is one app in a household library, not a product built around this one job. Some apps do only this and go further. Seven expense splitting apps, by what each one is for sets them side by side, and says when one of them is the better choice.
Guides that use Expense Splitter
- What information should co-parents share, and what should remain private? — A practical line between two homes: share the custody schedule, kids' expenses, records, and handoff notes. Keep each home's calendar and finances private.
- How to run a family Secret Santa nobody can spoil — Settle the budget first, draw the names so even the organizer cannot see them, keep spouses from drawing each other, and reveal the whole list on the day.
- Splitting the kids' expenses between two households without fighting — Agree the categories and the percentages once, log costs with receipts, settle on a schedule, and keep each parent's own finances out of it.
- Living with roommates: bills, chores, groceries and guests without the resentment — A shared house as one household: a running balance for bills, a chore rotation nobody has to police, one grocery list, guest rules, and clear borrowing terms.
- Sharing a lake house with your siblings without fighting over it — A co-owned house in one shared space: weeks claimed fairly, costs split and saved for, upkeep logged, and the contents and warranties on record.
