Which is a better fit?
Choose SignUpGenius if you need to collect money, send people confirmations and reminders, or run waitlists and volunteer-hour reports: it does all of that, and the free plan is enough for many sign-ups if you accept ads. Chickadee Bandit fits an organizer who wants sign-up sheets and conference times with no ads for anyone, beside the calendar and announcements their household or group already uses, and who can do without payments and reminders to the people who sign up.
Where SignUpGenius shines — and where it doesn't
SignUpGenius is the sign-up sheet most people have filled in: an organizer lays out slots, sends a link, and anyone can claim one without making an account. The free plan has unlimited sign-ups with confirmation and reminder emails, and it shows ads on the sign-up page. It also collects money for dues, tickets and donations, for a fee on each payment.
Chickadee Bandit is a household app library, and two of its apps do the sign-up sheet. Volunteer Sign-Up holds slots with a capacity each, and Booking Slots publishes a run of times for conferences or tryouts. Either one shares a sheet by link, and people sign up with their name and no account. We take no payments and send nothing to the person who signed up, and the table below says where else it falls short.
Side by side
| SignUpGenius | Chickadee Bandit | |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing | Free with ads. Silver $11.99/mo or $107.89/yr removes the ads from 1 sign-up at a time, Gold $29.99/mo or $269.89/yr from 10, and Platinum $59.99/mo or $539.89/yr from all of them. | $6/mo or $60/yr for the organizer's household, with every app in the library. Sign-up links need a live plan; 30-day free trial with no card. People who sign up pay nothing. |
| Ads | Ads on free sign-ups and their emails, seen by everyone who signs up; a participant cannot remove them. A paid plan removes them from 1, 10 or all of the organizer's sign-ups. | None, for the organizer or for anyone who signs up. |
| Signing up without an account | Yes: anyone with the link claims a slot, with no account. | Yes: anyone with the link picks a slot and leaves their name and a note, after a bot check. A link takes up to 200 sign-ups, lasts up to a year, and can carry a password. |
| Slots & waitlists | Several sign-up formats, slots with quantities, tabbed sign-ups, and waitlists that move the first person into an open spot, on Gold and above. | Slots with a capacity each, enforced by the server so two people cannot take the last place. Booking Slots generates a timed run for conferences, and shows booked names publicly only if you turn that on. No waitlists, and someone who signed up by link cancels through you. |
| Confirmations & reminders | Automatic confirmation and reminder emails on every plan. Group email invites: 1,000 a month free; 2,500, 10,000 and 20,000 on Silver, Gold and Platinum, with 150, 500 and 1,500 texts. | The organizer gets an alert for each sign-up. The person who signed up gets no email or text from us. |
| Collecting money | On every plan: cards 3.95% + $0.95, eChecks 1.95% with a $1.00 minimum. The organizer chooses who pays the fee. | None. No payments, so no fees. |
| Repeating events & reports | Recurring event duplication on every plan; volunteer-hours reports on Gold and above. | No repeating sheets and no hours reports. An automation can open a sheet whenever an event goes on the household calendar. |
| Platforms | The web and an iPhone app. | iPhone, Android and the web. Someone signing up by link needs only a browser. |
| Beyond sign-ups | Sign-ups, payments and ticketing. | A household with over 100 installable apps: the sign-up sheet sits beside the calendar, RSVPs and announcements, in your household or in a space you share with a group. |

When SignUpGenius is the right call
When money changes hands, or when the people signing up need to be reminded. A booster club selling tickets, a school collecting field-trip fees, a volunteer program that reports hours: SignUpGenius does each of those, and we do none of them. For one potluck a year, its free plan costs nothing, and the ads are the only price.
When Chickadee Bandit fits better
An organizer who runs a sign-up every few weeks and is tired of ads on every one: a room parent, a coach, a teacher booking conferences. The sheet lives with everything else they run, the sign-ups come in from a link with no accounts, and nobody who signs up sees an ad. See Volunteer Sign-Up and Booking Slots.
Moving from SignUpGenius
Nothing imports from SignUpGenius. Before you leave, save the lists of who signed up that you want to keep, and finish collecting any money through it. Then make the next sheet in Volunteer Sign-Up, open a share link from it, and send that link wherever you sent the old one. The guide to running a PTA or booster club covers the rest of the year.
The feature list is not fixed
Every other product on this page is a fixed set of features: it does what it does, and a need it did not anticipate gets a no. Chickadee Bandit is built from small apps, and a household can add one of its own. An admin describes the app in a paragraph on the Apps page and the hub builds and installs it, using the AI credits that come with every plan; someone who writes code can start from any of the open-source apps and install their own version from a URL. A custom app gets the same checks as the ones we ship: it declares what it reads and writes, keeps its data in your household's own database, and the hub refuses anything it did not ask for.
