An in-case-of-emergency binder another adult could actually use
A shared binder of the things another adult would need to know if you were suddenly unavailable — where documents live, account and utility details, who to call, and how to run the household. Readable by all adults, or restrict it to a designated group.
What In Case of Emergency does
If you were in the hospital next week, could your partner or your sister find the insurance policy, pay the electric bill, and know who to call? This is the binder that answers that, kept where the right adults can reach it.
Entries are grouped into categories: accounts and bills, documents, people to call, household how-to, medical, passwords and digital, and other. Each has a title, a where-to-find-it hint, and free-text details. Everything is encrypted before it reaches the database.
How it works
- Structured entries in seven categories, each with a where-to-find-it hint.
- Encrypted at rest: titles, details, and location hints are encrypted by the hub.
- Readable by all adults in the household, or restricted to a designated group.
- Print or save as PDF to hand a copy to a trusted person outside the household.
- Children cannot see it.
Who it's for
Any adult who is the only one who knows how the household runs. Adults only.

Works well with
Guides that use In Case of Emergency
- Making your household survivable if something happens to you — The practical handover: what another adult would need to run your house, where to keep it, and how someone would find out they need it in the first place.
- Leaving the kids with a sitter: what they actually need to know — The sitter's real questions are what is normal tonight, what is dangerous, and who to call. How to answer all three once, and hand them over in a minute.
